MAY 1ST, 2012: The Mascot Creation Contest results have been finally posted! Congratulations to North on creating the design for Anomalous's official mascot! Woohoo! It's gorgeous. ♥ I'll be holding another contest soon to decide his/her name but you'll all receive a nice little PM from me when that happens. In other news, I hope everyone's school years are rounding out to a nice finish. It's almost over (at least for me) and I, personally, CANNOT WAIT for summer. It is much, much, much, much needed.

March's Member of the Month goes to one of our newest members, North! While she may be new, this gal has really started her time at Anomalous with a bang. With lovely looking tables and graphics, as well as an entertaining writing style, North has already caused some trouble in the lands! While she only has two characters, she has already managed to steal one of Auster Wood's princesses! With all of us on the edge of our seats, I certainly think that North deserves this spot! Congrats, my dear!
This month's Character of the Month breaks the mold of the previous months and strays away from the islands! Congratulations to our very own swamp stally-on, Hostetler! Hoss is probably one of my personal favorites, so I'm extremely pleased to see him win! With his wonderful Cajun accent and bubbly personality, Hoss wins the hearts of anyone he meets because of his - and I quote - "cuteness". Oh, and who doesn't love an awesome looking chimera?

The Birds & Bees (4 sub-boards) Do your characters have a twinkle in their eye? Players of both of the parents must fill out the form, then Mother Nature will do the rest! Remember folks, the only way to get mutations for your characters is by breeding (or buying it before-hand). Once your foal's statistics have been posted, staff will sort its information into the correct season so you know when it will age!
Linx Mountain Range (2 sub-boards) The Linx Mountain Range occupies the northernmost parts of the Homeland. Snow falls thickly here during the winter and it is generally accepted that this area is cold all year round. It is one of the largest territories in the Homeland and certainly one of the most diverse, occupying an area that includes the frigid tundra, small coniferous forests, and the mountain range itself. The Linx are not for the faint of heart.
Auster Wood (2 sub-boards) This sprawling coniferous forest is dominated by species such as hemlock, golden larch, cedar, and fir trees. A mostly evergreen forest, Auster is a welcome sight amongst the north, an area known for its bitter cold and snow. Auster Wood is the last place in this range where such a large forest can grow. Be careful: predators have deemed the Wood an excellent place to raise their young.
Lake Vesta Found roughly in the center of the Homeland, Lake Vesta has long been the source of both life and legend. Surrounded by myths of how it was created, many believe a tale of how a large asteroid crashed into the Homeland and created the original crater. Regardless of its origins, Lake Vesta is a serene place. Surrounded by lush grass and green trees, its cool waters offer both refreshment and recreation to life in the Homeland. However, with the strange anomalies that are cropping up here, things may not be as peaceful as they seem...
Carlin Forest (2 sub-boards) This massive forest runs the gamut of deciduous plant life. On the outskirts of the forest, small birch trees and low brush take root, but towards the center of the forest, the flora grows taller and more massive. Large white oak dominate the area and an assortment of berry bushes feed off the small brook that runs through. These berries are a delicacy but do attract black bears, Travelers of this forest should be careful not to let their guard down.
River Cognar The Cognar River is the mighty river of the Homeland. Just about all streams and ponds are fed by this great river, including the large Lake Vesta. It's path follows a gentle meander between small hills and slopes and is lined by lush foliage. At approximately a hundred feet wide at its widest and seventy feet deep at its deepest, the current in some areas is dangerously fast. This river also draws in prey and predators alike, so tread carefully!
The Battle Grounds (1 sub-board) The Battle Grounds would be a very peaceful area, if it weren't for the constant fighting going on here. A generally flat area covered in green grass, there aren't many trees here to impede one's fighting progress. If your character has a score to settle, bring them and their adversary here. Decide amongst yourselves your rules for the battle and, when it is finished, staff will come in to determine a victor! All fights will be locked after completion.
Beryl Bay (2 sub-boards) Beryl Bay is located on the western half of the Homeland. Extending several miles across the coast, it is here that horses may take a trip to the beach or go for a swim in warm water off of the Mainland. It is also here where horses may attempt to make the crossing to or from the Islands via Ricochet Sound. The sands of the beaches here are very coarse, with rocks scattered throughout. Those playing in the waves are urged to take caution, as nobody knows what hides beneath the ocean's darkened surface.
Yacare Mire (2 sub-boards) Characterized by saturated soil and murky bodies of water, the rich soil of the Yacare Mire supports a variety of vegetation and woody trees. Not without beauty, fallen trees adorn the water like stepping stones into another world, while the mangroves provide an important ecological service for environment. Home to several different species of alligator and crocodiles, the marshlands are hardly a home for the faint of heart. With little to no solid, dry ground and quick-sand like mud to boot, it is advised that mares keep a careful watch of their foals and to never travel alone.
Nombeko Plains (2 sub-boards) The Nombeko Plains stretch between the foothills of the Linx Mountain Range and the cliff-face known as The Gish. A small crack that formed in the cliff has widened slowly over time and now serves as the most direct entrance to the plains. The passageway opens into a wide open plain, dotted with a couple of oak trees and sprinkled with wildflowers. The rainfall here is fair year round, so inhabitants are supplied with adequate food and drink. The only major concerns are the snakes and the gopher holes, which can be hidden easily among the grasses. On the far end of the plain, the land slopes up into the Linx Foothills. From atop these foothills, one can observe the expanse of the land much like a king from his throne.
The Boondocks (2 sub-boards) Dry in the summer and cool in the winter, the Boondocks are the friendlier of the two southern territories. A vast shrubland, the Boondocks are home to a variety of low-growing shrubs and short, hardy trees. Unpredictable yet reliable rainfall graces this area year-round, although there is a noticeable wet and dry season. The rocky and uneven face of the Boondocks creates several havens to hide away from harsher weather or predators.
Saraph Sand Dunes (2 sub-boards) The Saraphs are a vast expanse of rolling sand dunes that take up the majority of the Southern Range. More like a sea of sand rather than a few dunes, the name makes this harsh desert a little more friendly than it is. While probably one of the largest territories, it can only support a very small herd due to limited resources. With intensely hot summers and often freezing night temperatures, only the hardiest individuals can hope to survive. One benefit is that there aren't many predators here - except the sun.
Tangaroa (2 sub-boards) The largest of the three islands, Tangaroa has long been the ancestral home of the native island population. A thick rainforest filled with exotic species of birds and plants lies in the center of the island, with white sand beaches patrolling the borders of the shore. While there are hardly any predators to speak of, sharks are known to lurk in the shallows and, with the only volcano in all of the Homeland, Tangaroa's beauty masks much of its treacherous nature. This beautiful and warm paradise has never felt the cold grip of winter and, with ample supplies of food and fresh water, it is completely self-sufficient and capable of housing the largest herd in the islands.
Hihiri (2 sub-boards) The smallest of the three islands, Hihiri is too small to support anything more than a few individuals and therefore cannot be claimed. The link between Tangaroa and Kahukura, it is most often used as a passageway between the two larger islands. Although small it is perhaps the most serene island, with the largest source of freshwater to be found amongst the islands. Skirmishes between the natives are often brought here to be settled.
Kahukura (2 sub-boards) Literally translated, Kahukura means 'rainbow' and a rainbow it is indeed - of life, that is. Longer than it is wide, Kahukura is the southernmost of the island trio. Arguably the warmest of the three islands, coral reefs and tide pools abound in earnest off of its fine sand beaches. For the most part, this island is all jungle and sand with little variance in the terrain. Access to freshwater is hard to find, so many make the short trip to Hihiri for daily supplementation. When it does rain here (which is often, as it is for all the islands) the water tends to collect in a smooth-rocked basin in the center of the island. When the basin is full, it could take months to seep back into the earth.
