She felt as though she was one with the islands; that nothing would ever drive her away from their colorful sanctuary. She often sought to retreat far into the rainforests of the various islands, though none of them compared to rainforest on the smallest island of the chain, Hihiri. Though she had a different reason entirely to hide away on Hihiri, mostly out of selfish reasons. She disliked dealing with the other islanders, mostly due to a lack of socialization as a child. Her mother had become a recluse, and such reclusive habits had rubbed off onto Ixchel. Granted, her mother had only been alive long enough to ensure the grullo mare would survive; such habits were hard to get rid of.
At the thought of her long passed mother, the grullo mare paused in her trek through the small island to give a moment of silence, in remembrance for the dead mare. Though there was only a sparse few memories left of her own mother, it was only respectful to remember the mare who had given her life.
Her mother also had an entirely good reason to hide her only child, Ixchel reasoned. How would the other islanders handle take someone who looked like her? Her coat color was normal, that much she was thankful for, but other than the bare basics…Ixchel knew she was very different from her fellow natives. Blue swirls all over her shoulders, down her spine, and across her rear flanks were a horrible reminder of how different she was; of how much she would stand out from her fellow natives. How could they accept something that that was an abomination, so much so that her own mother had hidden her from the world?
Pale blue eyes casted an appreciative glance up to the darkening sky, drawing a slight frown. Night was almost upon her, which would cause things to only worsen if she was to be found. Not only did she have these strange markings, they glowed at night. With a sigh, the mare carried on, only to stop at the shallow waters of Tukutuku...The place where it all began – her birthplace, and the place she felt most at peace at.

With her Vigil over nearly a whole season ago, Solali was headed on the path toward everything she had ever wanted. She was destined to be a proud wife of the tribe, ever loyal and ever faithful to those in her family that needed her. Someday, in a few years, maybe, she would be betrothed to a strong warrior who had proven himself in battle. Then she would truly begin serving her tribe. But, until then, she was expected to grow in wisdom and in beauty.
The thought of her future weighed heavily upon the bright and social filly.
Suffering from a rather uncharacteristic bout of melancholy, the silver buckskin filly had turned to one of the first places she had been introduced to - Tukutuku. The sacred waters would surely heal her and offer her solace that none, not even Erzuli, could lend her. As she pushed her nose through the jungle's growth, a faint smile graced her mouth as she listened to the sounds of Hihiri preparing to settle down for the night. It was proof, perhaps, of the peace that she was sure she would find at the waterfall.
However, when she broke through the brush and began to walk toward the sacred waters, Solali was forced to pause. In the blue light of twilight stood a mare but, what was far more interesting, was the faint glow that she was emitting. Flaring her nostrils and pricking her ears forward, the young filly stood still. Curious despite being aware that it was rude to stare, the chieftain's first born nickered gently. "Kia ora." Shaking her head and hoping that the mare hadn't noticed her staring, Solali cleared her throat and hesitantly offered a bit of conversation. "It's beautiful, isn't it? The waterfall..."

She was thankful that her strange markings weren’t too bright, for the pale blue muted the glow some. The glow was bright enough to give off some light around her, almost like a firefly’s glow. The light was bright enough to cast some light around her; guaranteeing she would not be plunged into darkness once the night truly set in.
The jungle itself was peaceful, as the animals settled down for the night. Well, most were, except for the grullo mare. She had come to seek solace in the waters, but had grown aggravated when she discovered that this place, her birthplace, could not offer her the solace she sought this night. With a disgruntled sigh, the mare shook her head softly, blue eyes tearing themselves away from the water. They flickered up at the slight rustle, ears twisted back into her black mane at the sound, before her head pivoted to find the source. Blue eyes settled on the silver buckskin filly, mildly surprise overtaking her previous disgruntled one before Ixchel forced a stoic expression across her features.
The mare’s flickered forward again as she spoke, the language she spoke distantly familiar, before she spoke again in a language Ixchel could easily understand. Blue eyes forced themselves away as the filly stared, but she couldn’t fault the filly her curiosity. She was probably strange to her; something foreign and unknown, given her markings and soft glow. Any child would be curious, but this one did not directly ask about them. Instead, she chose a different path of conversation, which forced Ixchel’s gaze to return to her. “Yes, yes it is. Perhaps the loveliest thing the islands have,” she replied, before he brow drew together slightly. Some of the filly’s features stood out to her, making her look familiar to another face Ixchel had only watched from afar. “You are a child of Wahale, yes?” she inquired, not even bothered if it was perhaps too blunt or straight forward. Blunt and straight forward was just who she was.
