Caiaphas A low call rang out across the expanse of territory. The black brute had returned to his birth lands and he wished to have council with the king. His feathered hooves moved slowly and then stopped near a boulder that had escaped the ground. What do you think he looks like Master? What do you suppose his size is? The equally black raven of Caiaphas's childhood soared above, just skimming the stallion's ears as he swooped down and then up to a nearby perch.
That doesn't matter, Pilate. Growled the brute. He was in no mood for the bird brains games. A heavy snort dismissed the conversation and returned the day to silence. No one was too near, and deciding it would be pointless to wait, the pair continued deeper into the territory.
Not much farther into their trek did Pilate grow bored. The bird would speed up ahead then drop back behind his master, all the while singing to himself. The raven believed with all of his little heart that he could sing like the other birds, but in truth the tune was not even melodic. Must you be so infuriating. Roared Caiaphas as the bird swooped close to him again. Hush now Pilate. Go ahead and find something to do with yourself. By now the stallion had stopped in his place and was eyeing the bird harshly. He would wait for news here, and Pilate knew it.
Yes, master. And the bird was off.

» Snow had begun to fall lightly in the mountain's peaks and a light layer had come to rest atop the colored stallion's back and poll. Budik heard the call from his snowy 'watchtower' mountain as the sound bounced around the surrounding peaks. His head swiveled immediately over in the direction from which it had come, his ears swiveling and unsettling bits of snow. He waited for the echoes to subside fully before throwing his head up and blasting a call of acknowledgement, sending more snow cascading forom his body. The call exited his mouth soaked with irritation. In the silence that followed, he muttered through his clenched jaws. "What now?" He grudgingly began his descent down from his lookout. "I can't have but a moment to myself without someone calling for some damned meeting!" The farther down the mountain he came, the more weight he threw into his footfalls. By the time he'd left the light snowfall behind and leveled out onto the larger foothills, he was stomping angrily and throwing his head bobbing into each step.
» But who am I to answer to another stallion? At this, his frustration bubbled up and brought his feet to a halt. He planted his feet firmly on the short, dried grasses and lifted his head high. He inhaled lungfuls of the chilly air as he tasted the scents in the area. He thought he could make out the stranger's scent among his followers, but was interrupted by a dark form swooping through the sky. It appeared to have come from the area to his left. His stony gaze followed it as it flew off and then returned to the area from which it had come. He narrowed his eyes at the slopes and scattered thickets that filled the direction. His gaze searched briefly, but his frustration quickly mounted. He threw his head, unsettling his multicolored mane, more snow falling from him, and stomped his fore angrily. His voice rang out loudly, "Who is it that would have a King drawn from his throne? Let him come to me." His eyes narrowed and his body went still as he waited for the stranger to appear. The icy snow sprinkled along his topline was sparse after all of his movement, but there were plenty of flakes still stuck in his coat. They froze his skin numb and as a strong breeze rolled over him, the temperature on his back seemed to plummet. He subconsciously embraced it.

The pale stallion followed Caiaphas at a lax pace, at times not even being able to see the black beast before him as Annas' hooves wandered as much as his gaze did. It did not entertain him - walking through the mountainous regions. Then again, what truly entertained the gold champagne instigator? There certainly wasn't a very long list. At the very bottom was a space reserved especially for his partner's pet. Annas would much rather the hellion bother someone else, but it seemed the Mother's will for Pilate to aggravate Annas. He saw it as a challenge, and this challenge was accepted gracefully.
The permanent emotionless stare upon the thin stallion's face watched Pilate be sent off, Annas quietly praising the Mother herself for her blessing. He quickly took his place beside Caiaphas. Annas and Caiaphas fit together perfectly. With the pale stallion's clever mind and with the black stallion's brute force, how could a better partnership ever be assembled? If only that damned bird would disappear. His bald neck arched as he snorted in disagreement with Caiaphas' bellow.
Annas stood as tall as he could beside Caiaphas, surveying that which stood before them - boulders, shrubs, trees, the usual. He said nothing in regards to Pilate.
"Caiaphas. If the lord of this land is worth speaking to at all, he will not find us." Annas' voice was nowhere near the deeply-rooted register of Caiaphas' bass. Annas' piercing tenor was articulate and clear - not to be misunderstood. "To simply submit to all those who ask of one's presence would be to deny one's divinely-granted righteousness as a king. I can have no restraint when I say that this 'Budik' as he is called will insist upon your locating him. Not the other way around."

Caiaphas Caiaphas listened to his partner with keen ears, but his face showed the same emotionless expression the pale one's did. Ah, Annas. You speak the truth. But it seems you have forgotten one thing. The black stallions tail whipped across his hindquarters as he paused, letting what seemed to be a mistake sink into the small tenor's thick skull. A smirk threatened to cross his face as he thought about the angry reaction that could easily explode if he continued to pick at his friend. He remained cold, continuing to explain.
Even if you can't seem to get along with the bird, he proves a valuable addition. He alone will find the stallion, saving us a wild goose chase around the lands. A snort completed Caiaphas' sentence as he gazed across the sky for his small, feathered minion. A light fog and snow shower had taken the mountains day and turned it dark. Caiaphas enjoyed the chill.
I've found him! I see him! Further! Come master, come! Screeched the excited bird, as he overflew them doubling back and swooping over Annas before continuing back to were he had come from. Disregarding an reaction that may have come from Annas, Caiaphas shot forward, keeping a black eye on the bird at all times. He assumed the Annas would follow in his own way and didn't take the time to glance back to his partner as he made advances toward the kingdom and its king.

Rather than continuing its path, it had changed directions and circled back around to him. Budik's head tilted all the way up, his eyes narrowing at the flying creature. His gaze locked with black, beady eyes. It sent a eerie chill along his body and he gave his head an aggravated shake, lifting his fores inches off the ground. He threw his head skyward and noticed that the bird, upon flying over him, had doubled its pace and changed its course. It returned back in the direction from whence it had come originally. He watched as a bubble of nerves began to seep into him. Something didn't feel right about that flightpath. His ears laid back uneasily.
» He stomped his fores and growled out impatiently, "My patience wears thin, Stallion." The champagne stallion desperately wanted to forget about the stranger's summon. He wanted only to return to his post, one of the only places he could truly be alone nowadays. With the range gaining new members everyday, he was finding less time for himself. And in such frigid weather, these constant interruptions were liable to put him in a black mood. Like now.
» But another part of him knew he could not simply let this other stallion roam his lands. He had to confront him and if necessary, drive him out by force. This stranger was not welcome to Budik's land, nor to his mares or offspring. He was not welcome here.
OOC: little bit better. ^^"

It was not Caiaphas' insistence on Annas' apparently "incorrect" conclusion that made the champagne stallion roll his eyes subtly - it was the mention of Pilate.
Ever since the black beast had become acquainted with the similarly-hued bird, he seemed to have more respect for what Pilate said and did than for what Annas had to say. It didn't seem right to Annas - he was far more experienced than that little winged hellion. Annas knew for a fact that his partner was making a mistake in following that bird. It was not a wise decision to make it known to an opposing stallion that he relied on a bird when it came down to it. It wasn't as if Caiaphas had some sort of advantage by using the bird to find Budik. Any respectable king would know his territory better than any bird could spy.
As Caiaphas took off, Annas debated following him or staying behind. Following would insist that Caiaphas had won their little spat and remaining behind could appear undutiful. As he brainstormed, the bald-necked stallion held his head as high as he could, glancing up this way and that. His grimace turned into a disgusted sneer as he decided that he'd rather give in to Caiaphas (or at least appear to give in) than seem undutiful to perhaps the only "friend" he'd ever had.
Annas decided to take a rather different path so as not to come upon the king from precisely the same path as Caiaphas...
OOC: Once Nala replies with Cai meeting Budik, please assume that Annas has followed him, albeit begrudgingly. xD

As Caiaphas approached, he slowed his gallop to a respectable trot and scanned the horizon. The black stallion, although independent in nature, had the utmost respect for authority. He sensed this authority didn't appreciate the company. Annas had followed, but his exact location still remained unknown. Both the king and the pale phantom were invisible, leaving Caiaphas and Pilate alone and thinking. The bird swooped low over his masters head before escaping the situation and resting himself in a nearby tree.
He had to think fast in the silence. A good impression had to be made. Quickly Caiaphas lowered his head, extending one leg and bending the other in a bowing fashion. King! His voice boomed into the ground. Council has been requested. His rose his head first, his slightly waved hair pulling away from his white knee. This council is not by my choice, your majesty. It is merely showing respect to you and your monarchy. He hoped desperately that he hadn't gone to far by adding the fact that if at all possibly any meeting could be rushed or avoided if the king chose.
He glanced behind himself once more, looking for Annas with no success. The king would have to chose now; approach or not Caiaphas had found his home.
ooc: wah this fails baddd.

Yes, it was respectful, but Budik was in no mood for pleasantries. The sooner he could leave this little meeting, the better it would be for all involved. The stallion's voice brought some of Budik's attention forward, the rest was still sitting atop his throne on the peak behind him. "King! Council has been requested. This council is not by my choice, your majesty. It is merely showing respect to you and your monarchy." Budik's head tilted back and to the side as his hazel eyes rolled in frustration. His head returned swiftly. "Get on with it," he snapped, and then added carelessly with a tired sigh, "State your purpose and be gone." In his peripheral vision, he noticed another form approaching. This one in high contrast to the black stallion who was both large and dark. This newcomer was lithe and light. He lowered his head just below shoulder height and peered at the light stallion approaching. His body language was meant to send a very clear message: Budik was not to be trifled with. This dark stallion seemed to have gotten the message. He meant to ensure that the other knew it aswell. "You and your friend," he added darkly.
OOC: I know this is late. Y'all know this is late. I am very sorry. D'X I figure we can just wrap this up with y'all's replies though. Then Budik can take his leave and we can all go on our merry way from this thread.

He'd warned Caiaphas to be more stealthy in his approach, but the beast moved right along to making a fool of himself, in Annas' eyes, anyway. Perhaps he thought he was doing the right thing by being so forward upon a first introduction.
The bald, pale-coated stallion stood farther from Budik than Caiaphas did and retained his grimace from afar. His amber gaze shot from his friend to the king and back, wanting no part, but still showing his association with his friend. He kept quiet, as he'd planned.
OOC: No need for any more, really. Quiet Annas is quiet. Also, one Nala reply and I think we're done here. ^_^
