Iris
The mare plodded heavily throughout the night; her pacing helping the pain that washed over her in waves. Iris didn't know what to do; she had hoped for advice, but had shamelessly hid from her family... her herd. She'd left for over a year, and hadn't told a soul where she was going. Through the stages, she had hidden within all of the trees; heading out only for water.
With her sides heaving, she tried to keep various thoughts on her mind as she snorted in anger from all the pressure. Her mouth uttering a small grunt into the new light peeking from the trees.
Within an hour, a small black and white painted foal sat on the ground. A little muzzle of hair peeking out under his chin.
"Seeing as your father can't name you, I will call you Iko." She declared to the newborn that was hers, as she stood weakly by the small form. It was obvious he was different, his eyes holding a very dark glare that even the morning light couldn't tear open. She had slightly hoped for a foal that took on her normal like body; but it seemed nature had planned otherwise, she didn't mind at all. It was her son, and he would stay her son. Nothing strange at all could deter him from her side.
"You must stand soon." She whispered to the small form, hoping that he wasn't born with bad legs.
Her fear of bad legs was brought up by the oddly shaped hooves, her worried cooing over his legs didn't faze him at all, for he got up quickly his legs spread around him in a obnoxious way. For a few moments, he stayed like that; swaying as he tried to move his feet forward to his only food source.
It was mid-day when Iris finally removed herself from the dark overgrown foliage of the forest, her feet moving her and her child to small patch of green grass by the beach; her tail swishing as her head lowered contently to the grass.
