Today was like any other for the almost one year old filly. She had woken to her mothers quiet sobs, her fragile brain all but deteriorated, all that was left of Ginebre was an almost mechanical way of taking care of Vela. Even though Vela could now speak rather well, she hadn't been able to save her mother, instead she kept what was left alive with a small purpose. Today though there had been a small spark of the old Gine, she had excitedly told Vela to go exploring her world. It was the filly's first summer and the Mire was alive with the buzzing of insects, birds, and frogs. Vela, glad to see her mother in a light she hadn't before, sprung into action and trotted off through the dryer bits of land Gine following right behind her. The pair's joy as they went a long was obvious and anyone who saw them wouldn't have known that they were struggling to hold on. As the sun rose higher in the sky and the day grew hotter, they took a break and sheltered by a tired looking mangrove tree. Vela entertained herself by weaving through the sagging and decaying roots. Ginebre hadn't realized how far into the mire they had gone, but now as she looked around and heard the faint sounds of other horses she knew she was close to the mire herds main location.
She cursed under her breath and looked to her daughter, who had started to wonder back over. Suddenly a shriek of terror erupted from Gine. A tiny little snake, just out of Vela's view, lashed out and bit the filly on her back left leg. A shaky little squeal of pain came from her and in a matter of seconds she had collapsed on the ground. Unknown to her, Gine had rushed to her side and tried to get her attention, the snake having already slithered off. Vela was fading fast, the snake, being only a baby, had released its full supply of venom into one of her major arteries within ten minutes she would be gone. Gine lay sobbing next to her, calling her name, but Vela gave no response. With a violent last shudder the filly was gone, and Gine was all too aware of that fact. She rose to her feet, sobbing uncontrollably. Then screams tore through her, nothing to stop them.
(This is terrible, but for me it had to be done, poor Ginebre though. If you want to make a reply to this go ahead, just expect a very angry and distraught mare on your hands)
