It had been a long night. The sun was slowly climbing over the horizon and all Phooka could do was stair in amazement, both at the stallion who had taken her in and at the foal she had just recently given birth to. Verdelet was certainly scared and beaten but looked normal as any other. And Phooka had never heard of any oddities in her line. Yet low and behold here lay a foal with scales on his legs, and wings on his back. Blast those had felt odd to push past. But everything looked as though it belonged, from his coat to the wings and even the scales were a match for the rest of him. All a pale egg shell. The greenish blue of the mane and tail was a little odd and yet seemed right. And she couldn't help but chuckle at the little glowing hooves. Her little cloud runner, little Rei Ocell. Verdelet had chosen the name. it sounded lovely to Phooka and part of her wondered how so much beauty could come from a stallion so battered and who at times seemed so bitter. But he had been good to her since she met him. She was only a little surprised when he had told her he controlled these plains. And the thought of little Rei being heir to that made her smile. Again her line would be of a nobility. And it was a good thing that this foal had been born here, the elders of her old herd would have cast this "deformed" foal out to die for it's differences. A foolish and barbaric tradition she had never agreed with. Then again it was her families different views on the way things ought be that cost her so much, and yet she never gave in. The thought of her home and her old life brought a tear to her eye. She did miss much of her old life. But she had found a new place to call home. She had a new stallion who she had started to love, and she now had a young one to take care of. Nothing would ever replace those lost in her past, but she had a new and bright future to look forward too. The sun continued to grow brighter and fly higher and Phooka thought of Rei perhaps soaring up there. The limbs seemed strong. Even as Rei slept they would twitch a bit as he dreamed. Verdelet seemed proud of his progeny and try as he might he couldn't hide a grin at his new son. Time and tide wait for no one, and so too Phooka had moved on. She never forgot those from her past, but she had to live her life. For herself, and for those lost to her forever, and now for Rei Ocell.
