Iris
Iris snorted, staring at the ocean water. It’s just a few miles, just a few. The young mare looked at behind at her belly. Really wondering if she would be okay while swimming over. It was better than bringing a newborn and weak foal into the water. Besides, she’d rather do this than force her newborn in the water.
Walking in slowly, her legs moving in slow movements to contain her energy. The day was sunny, and the sun had just gotten over its morning rise. Feeling the water hit her chest, she moved a bit faster. Feeling it drop off and her body start to kick in slow steady kicks, sometimes pausing in small moments to conserve even more energy. Strangely, Iris felt like she had swam this many times over. Although that wasn’t the case. When she was tossing that thought in her head, she hit her leg upon the reef, feeling her skin scrape across a rock, and her neigh of pain rung throughout the reefs. A throbbing stinging feeling went through her upper leg. In the pain, she gritted her teeth; feeling the throb of her muscles start to begin, she was past halfway done, and she was glad that she didn’t get tired as fast as her last cross over. Maybe it was because she had been running around the mainland like no tomorrow. Barely falling asleep at night. When her jaw started to hurt after clenching her jaw, she noticed the shore of Kahukura creeping up. She nearly smiled when she saw it, several hoof prints dotting the shoreline. Some small, some an adult sized.
