The bright red filly was watching her mother carefully, making sure that her movement hadn't disturbed the golden mare. After a few moments of slow steady breathing, Vela walked off. It wasn't uncommon for the small filly to wonder off on her own, though she knew never to go out of ear shot. She enjoyed her time alone, and honestly her mothers frayed emotions were becoming taxing on Vela. The poor mare had been a complete train wreck after Vela was born. She knew that her mother wanted nothing more then to leave the mire, and that the only reason she stayed was for her. She wished there was someway she could tell her mother it was okay to go. It wasn't like this swamp held anything special for her, and it surely wasn't like she had even seen her father or extended family in the three months of her life. In fact the only horses she had seen in this place had been far off and fleeting, only glimpses. She didn't know whether that was because of the hiding place her mother had found, or because no one really cared to find them. Most days she thought that someone must care that Ginebre had just disappeared, but others she was very uncertain. She knew these thoughts circled her mothers brain as well and only caused the mare more stress. Vela let the thoughts slid away as she found were the land really started to become swamp. She found a dry little island and lay down near the edge to dip her front hooves in. Her curious little eyes darting too and fro around the freezing landscape. She sighed in happiness and laid her head gently on her front legs. |
