Dresdin stood on a ledge, a terrifying drop straight down did not scare him, and he never saw any else on this ledge. He flicked his black and white tail, blue eyes narrowed as he watched the light layer of snow lift up and drift back down again. A cold wind pierced his side, though it really was no bother. He wanted some heat though, and you never got any up here. He jumped off his rock to another, sharp daggers clacking against the solid surface. He worked his way easily to the ground and he huffed, holding his head high. He slashed the ground with his hoof and barreled out a call to no one. He stomped his back hoof as he watched for a sign of movement. He slunk into the shadows and quietly scanned the floor beneath the trees. He moved into Auster Wood, sighting a rabbit hole. He waited silently, breathing slowly and eyes unmoving.
It wasn't long before the rabbit appeared, and Dresdin lurched forward, trapping the animal under his hoof. His mouth watered and he picked up the wriggling animal by his teeth and shook his head sharply, killing the animal. He tore into it, swearing under his breath because he didn't have fangs to go with his appetite. his finished his meal and left the hide, licking the blood off his lips. He trotted forward, moving on through the woods and into the common grounds. The sun was setting and he was forced the find shelter and sleep through the night instead of continue on. He had heard rumors of his brother living in the Boondocks, and he was curious. That and he needed a change of climate and scenery. As soon as the sun started to rise Dresdin was off again, trekking past the lake and continuing on.
The temperature was getting hotter and the woody and green scenery was changing. Dry grass spotted along cracked ground and hot, humid air. Sweat clung to his form as he cantered into the Boondocks before the sun started to set. He snorted, his brother's scent strong here. He knew it wouldn't be long before Dufresne made himself seen.

Dufresne wasn't keen on his brother returning to the Boondocks. The older ram-stallion hadn't stayed in his homeland as Dufresne had and the younger stallion didn't know what to make of Dresdin's arrival other than the fact that he shouldn't be allowed to stay.
The two had a strange relationship; they were kin, but they weren't friends. Dufresne knew family was more important so he wished Dresdin well, but he didn't want to see him every day. Dresdin was a different kind of stallion - cold and unforgiving. Dufresne didn't fancy himself much warmer, but at least he could have a heart sometimes. Dresdin, in all actuality, was more experienced than Dufresne, but the blue roan never let that get in the way. Dufresne could take his brother. After all, it was Dresdin that taught him how to fight.
The horned, blanketed blue roan stood lower than his brother today, his blue eyes glaring up at him from the bottom of the gorge. He kept his head tucked and his massive rack at the ready. Dufresne wasn't sure quite how to approach him. Maybe he'd just call him from his position. He pawed the ground lightly at this prospect, dirt getting caught between his cloven hooves. It would certainly be less dangerous than attempting to get his attention while he was climbing up there... But what would be the fun of that?
Dufresne immediately alighted onto the nearest boulder at the very bottom of Dresdin's current perch. The stallion climbed almost effortlessly, instinctively choosing which stepping stone was best. As he climbed higher and higher, Du heard his brother's familiar bellow and watched as Dresdin descended down the other side of the large pile. "Fuckin' kidding me..." Du muttered to himself as he continued up. He would not be climbing back down.
Rather, the blue stallion took his place on Dresdin's original perch and called out to him, his own call piercing. From his spot, he could not see where Dresdin had gone, but he knew that if he stayed put, his brother could see him from wherever he'd gone...

The unmistakable call from his brother pierced his ears. Cloudy blue eyes narrowed, audits pinning as Dresdin turned, seeing the blue roan upon the perch he had been at. "Well, well, well." Dresdin said sharply. "Looks like you're at the top. For once in your life." He added, a small chuckle following. He thrashed his tail, holding his antlered head high. He leaped across the gorge to the other side, climbing steadily up the other side. Dresdin's muscles coiled as he climbed, powerful legs hoisting him up to the top.
"Did'ya miss me?" Dresdin asked in a joking tone, looking about this dry land. No wonder my brother chose to live here, it's just like him. The thought rung through his mind, but he held his tongue. If he had said that, he had a feeling Du would say it right back to him about where he lived. Unless he didn't know? Probably not. After the long journey, Dresdin didn't know what to say now. He wasn't exactly fond of his brother. His large body held himself higher then Dufresne, technically. His eyes swept across to his brother, eyes locking with his. A grin sloped across his face, an easy-going look flooding his features.
"What have you been doing all this time I've been gone, Dufresne?" Dresdin asked, forcing small talk out of himself, glancing at his brother before glancing down into the gorge, his stomach rumbling once more. Dres's life really hadn't been very eventful since he and his brother were separated. Even thought they had issues, there were times when they'd get in trouble together. The chocolate and white hued stag thought back to the times of his childhood. How his father had left his mother once he found out she was pregnant with his brother. Dres, truthfully, wasn't happy. He liked being the only child, pampered by his mother, though sometimes too much. But Du had been born, and much like Dres himself, horns, based off of a type of deer/antelope, and they both craved meat. At least he hadn't been the only anymore, and they could go out hunting together. They taught each other their own tricks but kept the best for themselves, at least Dres had.
Dresdin shook himself from his memories, audits flicked toward Dufresne lazily.

Dufresne snarled at Dresdin's words. Who was he to judge his life? Dresdin had been missing from Du's life for years. He didn't know anything about him anymore. Of course, he wasn't far off. Dufresne's life had been less than exciting since Dres had left. No one came around the Boondocks anymore... Save for that beauty Caitlyn. He was glad to have her around from time to time. She brought some purity to the scrub lands.
His brother climbed and climbed to his level. Dres had always had a big mouth on him - Du would just let him talk until he had finished his piece. The blue roan lifted his head in superiority as he got closer, his round, massive horns nearly touching his back as he did so. His brother's rhetorical question received no answer save for a swift snort and a paw at the stone below his cloven hooves, leaving two scuff marks behind. He loved his brother, but sometimes he made his skin crawl.
"Keepin' watch, brother," he said softly but strongly. It was truthfully all he could say he'd been doing. With the occasional hunt as his sources of entertainment, the stag really didn't need much to stay alive. His muscles calmed as time passed, his ears pricked forward. "You wouldn't know anything about it, the way you've been living, I'd s'pose." Suggestions would be the way to draw it out of his brother. Who knows what Dresdin had been doing all these years? He'd probably caused turmoil and strife everywhere he went, just as they had as colts. No doubt a few unlucky ladies would be carrying little Dresdins around with them, too. Dufresne's brother was nothing like him and yet they were uncannily similar sometimes.

'Keepin' watch, brother,' the words flitted to his ears and they flicked towards his brother. Dresdin offered a nod. It was better then his life, really. He didn't do anything. 'You wouldn't know anything about it, the way you've been living, I'd s'pose.' The stallion bristled at these words, eyes narrowing and flashing over to Dufresne. "Watch your words, little brother.'" It was true though, and Dresdin didn't deny it. But it was a sharp awakening to hear that. It was nearly saying his life was worthless though- when you thought about it enough.
"I haven't had the most exciting events happen in my life." Dres said gruffly, shaking his horned head. "Though I doubt you have either." A mouse scurried over the rocks and the stallion trapped it by it's tail under his hoof. Quickly he killed the mouse, picked it up and swallowed, hoping it would at least hold him off for a bit, as the random rumbling of his stomach wasn't the best for the situation at hand. Though Dres was relaxed, the air between them was tense and he had no other words to say to his brother. He was happy to see him, but then again couldn't stand him. They were a bitch to each other. That's how they had always been, though.
Dresdin realized he had probably said too much, but he couldn't take it back now.
