Iris
Iris breathed in, her eyes darting nervously. She'd never dreamed of the thought of leaving the islands, never. Iris stepped into the water, the morning light hitting the warm water. She remembered seeing her ancestors walking across the water as if they owned everything they saw. The young mare looked over her shoulder, thinking about her first born brother. He'd surely get mad, she'd come back soon; the longest she'd be gone would be a season.
Iris stepped into the water lightly, her skunk tail hitting the newly awakened flies from their winter hibernation. Her front legs hit the water quickly for her eagerness. She squealed loudly, stepping back.
Barely into the water, and I already hurt my leg. The mare shook her mane. Bringing her right leg up in the air, feeling the strain.
I'm sure it won't hurt that bad swimming those miles. Its like walking the whole islands for a day straight. It won't be that hard. The young mare plunged in. Almost turning her head back towards the shore.
The water was deep, Even in the rising sun it scared her being able to see only splotches in the deep dark ocean water. When she took small rests by swimming slower, fish swarmed her feet and made her kick up her feet in fright, which caused her swimming to fault er. Which made her cut her legs up when she faltered in a coral reef.
Iris snorted, her nostrils flaring wide. The water hitting her neck with slaps. No wonder her Mom stayed on the Islands, and never thought about leaving; She had her Dad also. Iris had plans on going back, but... Not in awhile; she'd hoped she might return before Spring ended. But maybe in the middle of Summer now..
Iris's eyes slightly lit up when she saw the shore, her legs sore and stinging; with red eyes that stung like wild fire
