He lived, breathed, and played like any normal foal. He was completely unaware of how very different he truly as from any other foal. His hairiness had begun to grow at a rapid pace; his mane had begun to lay over like a proper mane should, but the hair along his spine still stuck out at odd angles almost like a mohawk. The hair at his armpits had begun to grow into more than just tufts of hair, as had the hair on his underbelly. He was slowly turning into a hairy creature, but Justine hadn’t really noticed it. He just felt hot all the time, and so he frequented the oasis in the garden. It was safe for him there, so his papa told him. He could play and swim all he wanted without having to worry about predators.
While his papa was busy patrolling the borders, he knew his mother was never far off if he ever got into trouble. His parents had been flexible, so he figured, in allowing him a lot of freedom in the dunes. Lilac colored eyes eyed the clear pool of water warily, before the colt backed up a few steps. With a running start, he dove into the water rather ungracefully, his high pitched laughter echoing throughout the oasis.

Sutton did her motherly duty to keep Justine at her side at all times, at least for now. As much as foals thought they were the boss of themselves, Sutton knew that such was never the case at such a young age, especially in such an extreme biome as Saraph offered. She worried as he grew; he was getting hair in areas that weren't normal. It wasn't all that surprising of a development, but the hair was getting thicker every day - he might smother himself. Luckily, it was autumn now and winter would be fast arriving. Saraph was kind of a beautiful place to live in the winter, even if the climate didn't change all that much. The oasis got greener and even the dunes started to get inklings of plants that would most likely wilt away at the first sign of the Sun rearing its ugly head in laughter at the plants' determination. Perhaps by the end of summer she would have a better idea of whether or not she would have to take Justine elsewhere so that he didn't die of heat stroke.
Sutton wasn't overprotective. She thought of herself as just the right amount of cautious at her job. The vivd mare had parked herself near the water's edge at the oasis and lifted her head to watch her son flop into the clear waters. She let out a laugh in response, sure that he could get out on his own. The dear was so funny sometimes. She loved him with all her heart and knew Montegomery felt the same way.
"Justine, be careful! I'm not too partial to swimming, especially if it's after you!" she laughed.

With his father constantly busy trying to make sure the dunes were safe and his mother allowed him a lot of freedom, Justine was left to his own devices when it came to discovering what was okay to do and not okay to do. Though it wasn’t entirely known to Justine how much freedom he truly had – how could he, when it was just the three of them in their sandy home? While he didn’t mind the solitude of their small family, he did get bored quickly. And sometimes he wished there were more foals than just him, so he could have playmates.
Splashing around without a care, he was oblivious to his mother’s approach until her laughter echoed around the oasis and reached him. He stopped mid splash, turned his head to the side so that one lilac eye could peer at his mother from underneath his yellow forelock that has plastered to his face. A silly grin broke out across his face before he turned around so his purple butt wasn’t facing towards his mother. “But mama, swimmin’ is fun!” he replied, doing an odd jig in the water to splash some up, as if to prove his point. His accent had begun to take after Monte’s, with an odd morph to it so that his drawl was not entirely as hard to understand.

"Swimming is the worst," she said with a laugh. Sutton hated water, hence her newfound home in the desert. The beautiful mare remained by the side of the water, turning a bit from her son to nibble on a nearby fern. She took a bite and looked back at Justine playing while she chewed. Sutton had a family. Small as it was, it was her's and she couldn't have been happier.
A thought of her brother passed her mind. How Rhys must be doing if already Sutton had a child! She wouldn't be surprised if she saw young, feathered horses begin to show their faces around the Homeland. Rhys had always had a weakness for the feminine form. He wasn't young anymore, but he certainly wasn't old. She bet he could get any girl he wanted and he probably did. Sutton had always been an eye-catcher too, but she was much more particular. The mare looked for stability when she searched for mates. Luckily, she'd found exactly what she needed in Montegomery and now here she was with his son. How perfect.
"Justine come over here!" Her voice held a bit of sincerity but was masked with a happy tone.

The protest, however mild it was, was distinctively Justine’s. Partially made of sass, the other part made of pout; he’d learned quickly what to do to get whatever he had wanted from his papa. Sutton, however, was not so easily won over when it came to matters involving water. Not that he cared much – he loved his mother unconditionally, regardless.
He didn’t leave his mother waiting for long, but did take his sweet time dragging his hairy form out of the cool water. Kicking up water, continuing his strange jig; he found several different ways to drag out leaving the water, until he was left with no other choice. He came bouncing out of the water the rest of the way, almost like a deer, before planting himself in front of his mother. “Hi mama!” he chirped happily, beaming up at his mother brightly.

OOC: I would reply but this is pretty old and Justine's surely almost full grown by now. New thread? ;3
