The night was encroaching upon Dolie's pleasures; she could the shadows get longer and darker with each passing minute from high above the island. Her front legs folded beneath her as she soared, her wings beat quietly and softly as she began to descend toward a remote grove of palms toward the middle of the island. It was not where the herd of Kahukura normally gathered, but who knew where they'd decide on tonight? She'd met Risque and his son a while back and she wouldn't mind seeing them again anyway. Dolie hadn't executed her very best hiding strategy, but she didn't mind.
The coral-pink of her coat looked darker now as the sun began to set. Luckily for the mare, she'd found a place with a perfect view of the lovely star as it slowly descended in the sky, just as she had moments before. Dolie found her way toward a short palm, laying her frame down and letting her wings rest in by her sides, feathers ruffling as they settled. Her blonde eyes watched the beautiful sight, soft pink mane draping over her neck...

LAELIUS
Laelius shifted her wings, groaning from the pain of molting. It was pretty much over and some of the pain had dissipated but it still ached. She flicked her small tail, her white forelock falling in front of her deep blue eyes. She tossed her crania, folding her white and silver grullo wings into her sides. She pranced forward, immediately pulling her wings back out and flapping them, even though she didn't have the slightest clue of how to fly. She jumped up onto a rock, her hooves clicking against them. Then she jumped onto the next, higher one. She flapped her wings, though they didn't help and she stopped at the top rock, her breathing slightly labored. Dusk was setting in, arraying the sky in soft, bold pastel colors. She let out a deep breath, swishing her silky tail. She would be one soon, and it was almost time for her vigil. She needed time alone, and she needed to teach herself how to fly....

As the great ball of colorful flames made its way to the horizon line above the ocean, Dolie could swear she heard the wingbeats of another nearby. A macaw, probably. The mare's view of the sun slowly faded and once she could no longer see the wondrous entity, she made it her business to investigate, albeit in darkness. Luckily, the stars glowed bright this night and coupled with a full moon, there was plenty of illumination to guide her.
Dolie got to her hooves and perked her ears toward the sound. Next, she heard a faint clacking of hooves to accompany the small beating sounds. Her head tilted a little as she nickered quietly to herself. That could mean one of two things: a foal had escaped its mother and was now turning to waking birds for entertainment, or she was not the only pegasus on the island.
Hopeful that the latter was true, Dolie took off in a brisk trot to find the youngster. The thought of having someone else that flew around the area was so exciting... Finally, someone to fly with that didn't have claws or a beak! She stepped quickly over small hurdles, her legs experiencing a bit of fatigue rather quickly. The young pegasus did not have to use them much and therefore, they weren't as used to running as her wings were to flapping. The mare came upon the filly and slowed her pace, taking in the sight. She was young and pretty, just as Dolie had been at that age and continued to be. In truth, Dolie wasn't much older than the filly. Her dark lips curved into a small smile as she walked toward her, her pink and black feathers ruffling in anticipation. Dolie stopped a comfortable distance away.
"Why, hello there, liddle one," she said softly, so as not to frighten. Of all horses, she was sure this filly would be the most accepting of Dolie's form.

LAELIUS
'Why, hello there, liddle one,' a soft, slightly accented voice reached Laelius' ears, and she turned her small head to look down at the coral pink mare... with wings. Laelius stopped, taking in the large feathery wings. Would hers be like that one day? She pulled her fluffy appendages in, they were almost fully feather but there was still bare patches. She nickered softly, tempting to launch herself off the rock to see if she could fly. "Hello." Laelius said softly, a little shy. With the lowering sun the front half of her body was starting to tint a dark blue, just in the slightest.
Lia looked at the ground, before pushing out her wings and flapping weekly. All of the sudden, she summed up a ton of courage and launched herself off the rock. A small squeal escaped her lips as she hung in the air for a second, batting her wings furiously before falling to the ground in a heap near the other pegasus. She whimpered, rolling over and laying there. She shakily stood up, letting her right wing droop in pain while she tucked the left one in and muttering a few 'ow's. She gave the large mare a crooked smile, "H-how are you?" Lia asked softly, making a fool out of herself.

Dolie's eyes batted a few times as she shirked away from the filly's attempt at flight. The poor dear didn't know the first thing about flying. It made Dolie smile a little as she regained her composure. The pegasus mare wasn't that much older than this one, but at least she knew how to fly. Dolie had never had the opportunity to teach another but this little one surely needed it.
"Oh I'm alright!" laughed the fully-fledged female. "How are you is the real question! Are you hurt?" Dolie set aside the laughter for a moment and closed the gap between the two of them, nuzzling the filly's drooping wing. A young horse herself, Dolie had little knowledge of the distance strangers kept from other strangers. Ordinarily Dolie made herself scarce in the presence of strangers. She liked this little tawny filly; why shy away?
The salmon-hued mare's wings shuffled and lifted a bit as she inspected the small, underdeveloped wing. It seemed alright, but she really knew nothing of healing. Dolie pulled back to await the filly's response.

Laelius
'Oh I'm alright! How are you is the real question! Are you hurt?' The mare asked, and Laelius pushed her long spindly legs up, grinning slightly. "Yeah, I'm fine, I'll just be a little sore." She admitted, nodding her head before flapping her wings uselessly. "I don't know how to fly and I was trying to teach myself," Lia said giving a small laugh. "I'm not doing very well." She added, shaking head head and rolling her bright blue eyes. The mare examined her wing before stepping back, and Lia looked at her curiously. She quite liked the bright pink color, much like a... what were they called? Flamingo! A small smiled appeared on Lia's lips.
"Oh, I'm Laelius by the way! Or Lia." She said, tossing her forelock out of her eyes and swishing her silky tail. "I've never seen another horse like me before, I was feeling a little self-conscious with all the stares I get."

"Oh dear you're doing fine, Little Lia!" Dolie laughed a little. She had been just like this little one when she was her age. Little Dolie was always launching off of this and that, spreading her under-developed wings only to fall and get up to try again. She smiled at the brown and white filly, reassuring her that she was not the only winged one out there. "I've only ever met one other like me and now I've met two!" she said, giving Lia a little happy nicker. Dolie knew little about how a stranger was to act with a foal. She just decided to be herself without even a thought as to what this child's mother might do if she found the two speaking. "I used to get the stares too."
Dolie let her black and coral wings open up from her sides and spread out in a full-out stretch, beating the large appendages a few times before settling them back at her sides. A bit of dust kicked up, but not too much. "Would you like some help, Little Lia?" The nickname was sure to stick with the older pegasus.
