Iris was but a mere moment into her vigil, her mind was spinning, her mother had left, with a pair of proud eyes as she gazed over at Iris in admiration. She was told this was special. To find my spirit guide. Iris ducked her head, the whale bones didn’t bother her, and she’d spent many a ‘days weaving in and out through the carcass. The only scary thing that Iris didn’t like was the way the shadows were. The way they moved and bounced away like tiny mice crawling across the cold white structure. She’d been told many times how scary it would be, but yet again, the whale bones were her playground. Until she saw the swirls of dark spirals going across the bones, it was scaring her. And Iris was trying not to utter a single word as she watched the black spirals curl around the bones like snakes, Some blobs of black fell off the head of one of the snakes. When it touched the ground, the sand bubbled up and made a hiss like sound. She just wanted to yell Mother, scream it out, find that veil of protection that her Mother had given to her as a newborn .Iris tried to tell herself over and over, it was just shadows, they can’t do anything.
She stopped thinking that when one of the black spiral of a snake curled up around her feet, its tongue slithering out, touching her hooves like a interested Stallion about to take prey of a frightful mare.
She wanted to utter out the words, stop, go away demon.
For sure, in her mind, she knew what Demons looked like now. That foal Greer, he wasn’t a demon, and these were demons.
Iris closed her eyes, breathing in and out. But closing her eyes made it worse, the black snakes now were squirming inside of her eye lids. That made her open them to see nothing, just the shadows of the trees near the beach covered the whale bones, the moonlight making the night beautiful.
How could her Mother and Father even stand the thought of going near this place? Was it because it held many memories for them? Did the figures of theses demons come into their dreams? Iris sighed, seeing that theses were most likely mere things that were part of the vigil to her parents.
Iris moved her head to look at the moon, only to see a parrot staring down at her. “A…. grey parrot?” She said with a curious but somewhat suspicious. “Shouldn’t you be off? Nesting down with your young and sleeping?” The grey parrot tilted its head and flapped its wings down to Iris, making a slight squawk at her. Its tail that would act as a rudder in the air was a red. A deep dark velvet red. When Iris made an advance on it with one step, it made an advance of two steps, its beady eyes full of question. When Iris lowered her head, her nose taking in the scent of the parrot. Its beak touched her as if doing the same. The scent Iris got was a mix of smells she knew quite well. The smell of horses, the smell of Kakuhura in the summer, and the smell of the ocean water. But the scents were fused together in a orderly fashion, and it made Iris’s heart lurch.
“Your what I think you are, are you not Parrot?”It squawked quietly as if responding. Iris couldn't speak parrot so she pretended as if she understood.
"I'm guessing that's a yes? I'm very sorry, I don't speak Parrot."
The Parrot seemed somewhat discouraged by that sentence, and looked at the white flower that hung by a few threads in Iris's mane. And she turned to look at it blandly.
"This parrot? Are you curious about this flower?" The smell of the flower still wafted into her nostrils, the taste of them still staying on her tongue. The grey parrot swung its wings, blowing air to and fro, making to flower drop. onto the sand. By that happening, the snakes reappeared, all wrapped around Iris, their scales trying to push the air out of her lungs. The Parrot then stared, flying away towards the ocean, the sun slowly starting to rise up, the snakes now grew more constricting and started to feel as if they were most desperate. Then they disappeared, like black smoke, the sun shown high up. And many horses were doting the horizon. A look of amazement crossed Iris's face as she watching the horses start to scatter about, She saw Mares with foals, and Stallions watching over mares by resting their heads over their mates shoulders. Iris face was in awe when a stallion went back from looking over at several foals and mares scattered around him. The stallion looked at Iris and reared, letting out a ear splitting neigh.
Iris quickly bent one of her legs and extended the other to bow down to the horses she clearly recognized as her ancestors now.
By the time she got up from her bow, the horses were gone and the sun was now warming up the islands from the cold night. Iris looked at the sand seeing the flower was gone, she quickly bolted in a spook out of the whale bones as to why it wasn't there. She disregarded it that it had been buried. So she ran off on the beach, the sunrise beating the morning rays on her back as she raced off to find her Father, to tell him how she was not scared at the very least... well not very much scared at the very least...
