Epona was laying down by a birch tree, he light hair was damp from a swim she had just taken in the lake. She blinked her eyes, her eyes looked as if she was reflecting the lake, but just a bit darker in the blue tones that you could tell the diffrence. She looked over her shoulder, looking at a pair of birds twirping quietly at eachother, as if they were trying to settle a considerate argument with eachother without her listening in. It made her smile. "Twirp, Twirp." she said playfully at them, letting them be slightly alarmed of her voice and float off into the trees in a madness of chirps. Epona stood up, and wandered near the edge of the lake. Dipping her head down near the water, letting her mouth suck in the water. Ever since she was born, she was told to drink water from Lake Vesta every day. Because it was a blessing from the Great Mother, and she should make great use of it. Epona, lifted her head and wandered back over to the Birch Tree, letting the smell of spring grass go through her nostrils like perfume.

Crixus lowered his muzzle, drinking in the sparkling water. His dark eyes stared back at him in his reflection, his troubled gaze wavering and changing as ripples fell across the water. He drew his head up, water dripping from his maw and whiskers. Her sneezed, shaking his forelock over his striped face. A soft voice filtered to his ears 'Twirp, twirp.' Were they mocking him?! He stomped, flicking back his head and whisking his tail against his sides. He pinned his ears, ignoring the soft voice and looking back at his reflection. The mud under Crixus's hooves suddenly gave out, sliding him into the lake with a large splash. Water filled his nose and mouth and it burned, his eyes open under the crystal water. He kicked himself up, coughing and sneezing, the water burning his throat and eyes. His mane and forelock were plastered to his neck and forehead, and he dragged himself back onto land, shaking his thick pelt. He grumbled and trotted away from the lake, his head lowered. A bright coat caused his eyes to flicker up, and Crixus pulled his head up, looking at a bright, cheerful mare with electric blue eyes. Crixus paused, was it her who had mocked him? His mouth stayed shut as they stared at each other, he didn't know what to say. . 236 Words

Epona was busy smelling all of the spring scents when a loud splash erupted from the lake, fearing the worst for the lake she deemed holy. She made out with a fast trot, a pit of anger rising from the area in her heart that she put in place for the Lake. When she reached near to the disturbance, she saw a Stallion, his head low. His eyes flickered forward, and he raised his head to look at her. Her cheerful look quickly changed into what was somewhat a cold stare of anger. Her eyes quickly darted to the Lake's shore, the mud disturbed with the streaks of hoof marks, and swirls of mud moving in the water that was once clear right there. "What have you done? You have disturbed the water of the lake haven't you?!" Epona quickly loped to the edge of the water, standing just behind the mud, her eyes examining the streaks. Religious as she may be of the great Mother, these streaks were not caused on purpose. She had found that much out by the way his head was lowered in disgrace. She turned. "Sorry for my outburst a few moments ago. I thought you purposely tried to disturb the water of the lake." She said, her face no longer cold like. "I am so awfully rude." Epona removed her gaze from the mud streaks and looked at the Stallion. "My name is Epona."

'What have you done? You have disturbed the water of the lake haven't you?!' The mare suddenly burst out, and Crixus stepped back, surprised. What? She loped to the lake's edge, scanning the mud and murky water before turning to look at him again. 'Sorry for my outburst a few moments ago. I thought you purposely tried to disturb the water of the lake,' she said, her face softening. I am so awfully rude, my name is Epona.' She said, moving her gaze to his face. He nodded with a chuckle, "It's all good... I'm Crixus." He said with a small dip of his head and a smile playing across his maw. He stepped forward, looking at her bright eyes curiously. "I think I've seen you before- do you spend a lot of time here?" He asked, his eyes looking into her's curiously. . 158 Words

"Crixus, interesting name. I don't believe I've come across a C name before. In fact it seems fascinating to me." Seeming him smile made her muscles tense down. At least you haven't gotten yourself a social put down. She offered a smile back. She walked up to his distance, standing near him and listening to his sentence with perked ears. She couldn't help but laugh. "I've lived here my whole life. Never left the place at all. I think the farthest I've been from the Lake is when my mother went off to have me." Epona blinked her eyes, seeing him look at them like most of the horses who had come to the lake and looked at them curiously. She tended to joke to other horses by saying her drinking the lake water had made her eyes that dark deep blue. "Yes these are my eyes." She said quietly. "They've always been this blue if your thinking that."
